Derek is the son of Bill and Pam Herb, and has been employed at FBFH&C since 2010. Born and raised in Shippensburg, he is a 2012 graduate of the Shippensburg Area Senior High School, and a 2016 graduate of Shippensburg University where he majored in Marketing. He then completed a two year program at the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science. Derek went on to complete his internship here at Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc. and has been a licensed funeral director since June of 2020. In his free time, he enjoys golfing, hunting, and working out. Derek is a member of the Hub City Club and resides in Shippensburg.
1. How long have you been employed at FBFH and what is your role?
I have been employed since 2010. I started out washing cars and mowing grass while in high school. I just recently became a licensed funeral director in June of 2020.
2. What do you like most about working at FBFH?
Being born and raised in Shippensburg, I enjoy serving and interacting with the community that I grew up in.
3. Where is your favorite place to be?
I love spending time at our family cabin in Somerset, PA.
4. Do you have any hidden talents?
I used to be very into heavy weightlifting. I never competed but my personal bests were 555lb deadlift and 405lb squat.
5. What is your favorite childhood memory?
There isn't one in particular but I enjoyed the memories I made with my brothers when we were young and carefree...playing sports together, sledding, holidays, etc. I am very close with my brothers.
6. What is your favorite movie/TV show?
My favorites are anything Adam Sandler from the 90's like Happy Gilmore, Billy Madison, The Waterboy, etc.
7. What do you like to do in your free time?
I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I also enjoy golfing, working out, and just being active in general.
8. If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would you meet?
I would like to be able to spend time with my grandma again, who passed away in 2013. She was the most selfless, down to earth person I knew.
9. What is your biggest pet peeve?
Sense of entitlement.
10. Where would you like to go on a dream vacation?
I have always wanted to go to Hawaii. The beaches and mountain ranges look beautiful.
