Zada Parson

Zada K. Parson, 92, of Shippensburg, died on the evening of Friday, January 17, 2014, at her home.

She was born on September 16, 1921, in Hill Valley, Huntingdon Co., PA, a daughter of the late Harry McConaughey and Martin and Rachel Hampton McConaughey Varner. On April 21, 1937, Zada married Mr. Lawrence L. Parson in Blairs Mills. He preceded her in death on November 3, 1995.

She was primarily a homemaker throughout her life, although she also helped her husband Lawrence do some farming here and there for many years.

Zada was a member of the Mt. Rock Church. She was a huge Jeff Gordon fan and liked to watch NASCAR and most other types of racing, as well as baseball. Zada liked to put together jigsaw puzzles and crochet and was always present at all of her children and grandchildren’s many sporting events.

She is survived by four children, Charles H. Parson of Shippensburg, Paulette Sheets of Shippensburg, Donna Bowers of Chambersburg, and Randy D. (Cathy) Parson of Shippensburg; one sister, Hazel Hudson of Shippensburg; eleven grandchildren; many great grandchildren; and several great great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, step-father, and husband, Zada was preceded in death by a son, Alvin Parson; two brothers, Herbert and George McConaughey; son-in-law, Richard Eyer; and daughter-in-law, Esther Parson.

Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, January 24, 2014, at the Mt. Rock Church, Shippensburg. The Rev. Chris Clugh and Rev. Lloyd T. Zimmerman will officiate. Interment will follow in the Parklawns Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service on Friday at Mt. Rock Church.
