Woodrow C. Stitt, 72, of Shippensburg died on the morning of March 28, 2012.
He was born on January 14, 1940, in Carlisle, a son of the late Earl Andrew and Elizabeth Duncan Stitt. On January 23, 1958, Woody enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged, after several reenlistments, on February 28, 1978. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal (four separate times), the National Defense Service Medal, and the Meritorious Unit Commendation.
After retiring from serving in the Navy, Woody then worked at PPG Industries and the Mechanicsburg Naval Depot, among others.
He was a life member of both the Durff-Kuhn V.F.W. Post #6168 and the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion, Post #223, a member of the Minnequa Social Club, and the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #2500, all of Shippensburg.
Woody is survived by two daughters, Wanda (Gary) Batzel of Altoona and Michele (fiance Jeremy Strayer) Stitt of Shippensburg; one son, Kevin (Shawn) Stitt of Shippensburg; one sister, Stella Hess; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his second wife, Delores R. Stitt and his brother, Roger Stitt.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc., Shippensburg. The Rev. Keith Bell will officiate. Interment with military honors conducted by the Shippensburg Area Veterans Council will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Viewing will be Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a worthy veterans organization of one’s choice.
