Wilma Mcclelland

February 10, 1929 — March 28, 2019

Wilma L. McClelland, 90, of Fenwick Island, DE, formerly of Shippensburg, passed away Thursday, March 28, 2019 at home, surrounded in the love of her family.

She was born February 10, 1929 in Orrstown, PA. Wilma was a daughter of the late Jacob Earl and Emmy Patterson Eyer.

A beauty from an early age, she entered a small pageant and was named Miss Letterkenny 1945, a title she wore with pride. She was a glamorous and classy lady her entire life.

In 1947, she met her husband at a swimming pool in Washington D.C. where he was stationed as a marine and she worked as a mail clerk at the pentagon.

Shortly after, on January 24th, 1948, they married and started a family. They built a home and life in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania. They developed many friendships, as “Billie” was not only a head-turner, but life of the party. She was always in the stands supporting her husband, the great coach McClelland and the Greyhounds on Friday nights. She was full of love, a beautiful spirit, a wonderful sense of humor and an easy laugh. She was a joy to be around.

Billie worked at SKF Industries for more than 25 years before retiring at age 50.

In retirement, Billie and Tom vacationed several winter months every year in Florida, and bought a small home in Fenwick Island, Delaware, where they spent their entire summers. She loved walking the beaches in Fenwick and Ocean City, fishing with her husband on their boat, going to the racetrack or playing keno and many happy hours spent laughing with friends. She was a fabulous cook and took great pride in feeding those she loved.

In 2014, Billie and Tom moved to Delaware to live with their grandson Tom (his wife, Donna and their four children). “Mimi”, as she was named by her great-grandson became the center of their universe; she knew it….. and loved it.

Wilma is survived by her husband of 71 years, Frank T. McClelland, one daughter, Deborah (Rodney) Miller of Lewes, DE, one grandson, Tom (Donna) Sites of Fenwick Island, DE, three granddaughters, Michele Reed of Harbeson, DE, Tara (Matt) Strong of Lewes, DE and Natalie (Jack) Lyons of Chambersburg, 13 great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, her sister Joyce Hock of Lewistown, PA and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one sister, Vivian Shuler and two brothers, Robert and Richard Eyer.
