Willis E. “Bill” Negley, 89, of Newville, passed away Monday, March 22, 2021 at UPMC Carlisle Medical Center. He was also known as “Smiley” to many. He was a very kind and gentle person who always had a smile on his face.
Born Thursday, July 16, 1931 in Newville, he was a son of the late Robert and Frances Wolf Negley.
Bill attended the Doubling Gap Church of God. He was a United States Army Veteran serving in the Korean War, where he fought in the Battle at Pork Chop Hill. He retired in 1989 from U-Wanna-Wash Frock Company with 30 years of service.
He worked as a carpenter before joining the Army. Also worked in the Kitchen at Big Spring High School before working at the clothing factory.
Bill joined the Friendship Hose Company #47 in 1968 and became a Life member in 1993, and was a member of the Newville American Legion and VFW and the Newville Fire Police.
He enjoyed word search and jigsaw puzzles. In his younger years, he enjoyed growing and tending to their large garden. He also enjoyed playing BINGO, bowling and watching movies with his friends at Gilliland Manor (Green Ridge Village)
He is survived by three sisters-in-law; Nancy Alleman, Shippensburg, Betty Alleman, and Judy Alleman, both of Newville; two brothers-in-law, Robert and Fred Alleman, both of Newville; and many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife and love of his life, Carrie R. Alleman Negley whom he married June 1, 1952; three sisters, Audrey Negley, Martha Negley and Lucy Negley Smith; and two brothers, Glenn and Victor Negley.
A graveside service will be held Monday, March 29, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. in Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery with Military Honors. There will be no viewing or visitation.
