William H. Russell, 89, of Shippensburg, was peacefully taken to be in the arms of his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, December 4, 2018.
A devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he is survived by his wife of thirty-six wonderful years, Marty Lehman Russell, who cherished and cared for him with everything she had. Also surviving are his two daughters, Janet Lacey (Ben) of Leo, IN and Darlene Armstrong of Carlisle, PA. His blended family also included a step-son, Rusty Shughart (Guoping) of Arlington, VA and a step-daughter Penny Hess of Carlisle, PA. Bill loved his six grandchildren, Cori Flanagan (Scott), Teri Harmon (Matt), Keli Teeters (Dan), and Todd Armstrong, all of Fort Wayne, IN: also Ethan Armstrong (Karissa) of Indianapolis, IN, and Ting Ting of CA. His children and grandchildren spread throughout the country, Bill delighted in seeing them on visits. This was also true of his great-grandchildren, whose visits to see “Pappy”, would especially, light up his eyes. Bill had five great-grandchildren, Rory Flanagan, Johnny and Zeke Harmon, Ava Armstrong, and Makaylla Mazelin. He was also survived by his mother-in-law, Thelma Gatten.
Bill spent three years serving his country in the Army and worked at Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg, PA: where he retired after thirty-seven years. His favorite hobbies were fishing, hunting, and recounting his adventures. He faithfully attended the Chambersburg Bible Church in Chambersburg, PA, until his health wouldn’t permit it. He is now in the presence of the Lord: glorifying Him, grateful for the wonderful life shared with his family and friends. Heaven has welcomed a wonderful, new soul.
