William Carroll Plasterer 87, of Shippensburg, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, April 21, 2023 at his home. Born July 6, 1935 in Shippensburg, he was the son of the late Carroll C. and Carrie Barmont Plasterer.
He was a 1953 graduate of the Shippensburg High School. He was a member of the Messiah United Methodist Church, Shippensburg where he served as Sunday School Superintendent for a number of years, Chairman of the Memorial and Gifts Committee, and in various other capacities. He was a member of the National Guard, prior to serving four years in the U.S. Air Force as Flight Engineer. He was stationed over three years in Germany, serving during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the American Legion Post #223, Durff-Kuhn Post 6168 VFW, and a Lifetime Member of the Vigilant Hose Company, Shippensburg. He retired as Chief Lineman from the Pennsylvania Electric Company in Shippensburg where he had worked for 34 years.
He served as Treasurer of the Boy Scout Troop #121, Merit Badge Counselor for many years, and traveled twice as chaperone with the Boy Scouts to Philmont Scout Camp in Cimarron, New Mexico. He served as President of the Penn Dixie Square Campers Chapter 045 of Chambersburg, President of the Good Sam Camping Club Chapter 25 of Chambersburg and President of Shippen Squares Square Dance Club of Shippensburg of which he was a Charter Lifetime Member of the club having originated in 1977. He was State Secretary of the PA Square and Round Dance Federation for two years, Chairman of the N.S.D.C.A. State Camporee, Treasurer of the Mt. Rock Water Co-operative, and also a member of the Fort Morris Chapter #3324 of Fort Morris AARP, Inc.
Bill was a School Board Director for the Shippensburg Area High School for 12 years and served on the Shippensburg Park and Recreation Commission, The Bible Release Time, and the Southampton/Franklin County School Authority. After retiring, he was a substitute bus driver for McBeth Busing for the Shippensburg Area School District for six years.
Bill loved spending time with his children and grandchildren on the family vacations spent together, on the beach or lake, and especially family camping trips. He enjoyed traveling around the United States and spending winters in Florida with his camping friends. He enjoyed conversations with new and old friends wherever he went. He never missed an opportunity to lend a helping hand to anyone that needed it.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Arlene Morrow Plasterer; three sons, Keith L. Plasterer and wife Jamie of Carlisle, Kevin L. Plasterer and wife Barbara of Shippensburg, Mark E. Plasterer and wife Kimberly of Ellicott City, MD; six grandchildren, Lauren Wilder and husband Eric, Kyle Plasterer and wife Kala, Sadie Plasterer, Elijah Plasterer and wife Kaylynn, Isaac Plasterer and wife Sophia, and Benjamin Plasterer; three great grandsons, Nicholas and Noah Wilder, and Nolan Plasterer; two great granddaughters, Makenna Plasterer and Elleanor Plasterer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Olive Jane Plasterer and Retha Plasterer Kelly; one brother, Gary Chalmers Plasterer.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 30, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. in the Messiah United Methodist Church. Rev. Wayne Heberlig and the Rev. Dr. Francis H. Norton will officiate. Burial with military honors conducted by the Minutemen of the American Legion Post #223 will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service in the church.
Serving as pallbearers are Lauren Renee (Plasterer) Wilder, Kyle Ryan Plasterer, Sadie Elizabeth Plasterer, Elijah Dale Plasterer, Isaac William Plasterer, and Benjamin Alton Plasterer.
