William R. “Bill” Knox, 65, of Shippensburg, died Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at home surrounded by family and friends.
He was born December 19, 1948 in Heidelberg, Germany. Bill was a son of Margareta P. DePrycker Knox of Shippensburg and the late Dannie C. Knox.
He was a member of Prince Street United Brethren Church, Shippensburg where earlier he taught 5th grade Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and recently the Good Shepherd Sunday School Class. He also served on various Church Commissions and on their Board.
Bill retired in 2005 from the Shippensburg Post Office where he was the Post Master, and prior to working in Shippensburg he was a Mail Handler, Carrier, Clerk, Supervisor and an Assistant Post Master at the Chambersburg Post Office. After retirement Bill worked part-time at Orrstown Bank and for Big Guys Fries during Shippensburg University events. He was a 1966 graduate of the former Shippensburg High School. Bill enjoyed golfing, bowling, and cooking for his grandchildren.
In addition to his father he was preceded in death by one brother, Dannie C. Knox, Jr.
In addition to his mother Bill is survived by his wife, Judy L. Guyer Knox who he married September 26, 1970, two daughters, Corrina A. Kater, and Jessica L. (Eric) Minor all of Shippensburg, five grandchildren, Tylisha N. Kater, Tyrell A. Kater, Kiah A. Minor, Ryleigh P. Minor, and Traevon R. Kater, one brother, Roy A. (Abigail) Knox of Williamsburg, VA, and a sister-in-law, Deny Lu Knox of Shippensburg.
Funeral services will be held Monday, May 12, 2014 in the Prince Street United Brethren Church, Shippensburg at 3 p.m. Officiating will be The Rev. James O. Bolich. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 1:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Monday at church.
