William Joseph “Bill” Hoover, 95, of Gardners, and formerly of Newburg, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, June 23, 2024 surrounded by his loving family.
Born Thursday, October 25, 1928 in Newburg, he was a son of the late Joseph F. and Grace E. Shuman Hoover.
Bill was a 1947 graduate of the Shippensburg Area Senior High School. He was a United States Army Veteran serving during the Korean War.
He was a former member of the McKinney United Methodist Church. Bill retired from Exxon in 1986 as a truck driver, with 32 years of service, and served as Hopewell Township Tax Collector for 34 years.
Bill enjoyed hunting, gardening, and reading.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Mabel Pauline Wenger Hoover, whom he married September 10, 1951; two daughters, Susan K. (Thomas) Day, Gardners, and Donna R. (Rick) Binner, Port St. Lucie, FL.; four grandchildren, Heather L. Day, Jonathan T. Day, both of Gardners, Austin R. (fiance’ Karen Diaz) Binner, and Sydney R. (Jordan) Jenkins, all of Port St. Lucie, FL; three great grandchildren; one brother, Ned Hoover, Bloserville; one sister, Kathryn Lauver, Chambersburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Phillip, Jay, Rodney, and Alan Hoover; and one sister, Nancy Alexander.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, June 27, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium Inc., with Pastor William Kauffman officiating. Burial will be in Otterbein Cemetery. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service on Thursday, at the funeral home.
