William Corman

William “Bill” “Spider” Corman, Sr., 91, entered into eternal peace with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Sunday, June 17, 2017, at the Shippensburg Health Care Center, after having a long and happy life.

Bill was born on November 12, 1925, a son of the late Clyde and Marian Kline Corman. He graduated from State College High School in 1944 and served honorably in the Army Air Corp in WWII as a B17 gunner. Upon discharge from the Air Corp, Bill began his studies at the Pennsylvania State University while lettering in football, wrestling, and baseball. After graduating from Penn State in 1950, Bill coached at Roosevelt Junior High School, Saltillo High School, and State College High School. He then proceeded to Shippensburg State College in 1956 to teach and coach for twenty-six years. During his tenure at SSC, Bill was honored as a PIAA Wrestling Coaches’ Hall of Famer for twenty-six years of successful service and coaching that produced 128 Pennsylvania Conference place winners, seven NCAA Division 1 Eastern Regional individual championships, one Division 1 All-American, one College Division All-American, and a Raiders team that won 231 dual meets. During eleven years of this time, he was also SSC’s Athletic Director. In addition to all of that, Bill was a lifelong outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping with his family. He especially enjoyed starting the Shippensburg Elementary Wrestling program and coaching the Stars baseball teams, along with bowling, and some good toe-tapping gospel music.

Bill had a wonderful marriage of 70 years and is survived by his adoring wife, Ardenia Mae (Hoffman) Corman. Bill leaves his loving memories to be cherished by his sister, Elizabeth Clark of West Chester; three sons, William J. Corman, Jr. (wife Sandra), John T. Corman (wife Kathy), and David S. Corman (wife Tami); three daughters, Constance Markley (husband Robert), Cathy Washabaugh (husband Joseph), and Janice Frye (husband Arthur); 13 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Clyde Thomas Corman; and two sisters, Joanne Lykens and Patricia Schier.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 22, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. in the Memorial Lutheran Church, Shippensburg, with the Rev. Dr. Robert Seibold officiating. Interment will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery with military honors to be conducted by the Shippensburg Veterans Council. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, June 21, 2017, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home and Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg, and one hour prior to the service in the church on Thursday.
