William Crist Coover, 78, of Shippensburg, departed this life on the evening of Monday, July 3, 2023, at WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital.
He was born on April 15, 1945, in Chambersburg, a son of the late William D. and Helen L. (Fogelsanger) Coover. Crist was a 1963 graduate of Shippensburg Area High School. He married Florence Seilhamer on August 23, 1969, at the Middle Spring Presbyterian Church.
In younger years, Crist worked for the former Miller-Reed Dairy, Harrisburg Dairy in Chambersburg, and as a security officer. In later years, he and his brother formed a partnership, Coover Brothers, where his primary responsibility was working as a property manager.
Crist was a sixty-five year member of the Middle Spring Presbyterian Church, Shippensburg. He was also a life member of the Hub City Club, Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post #223, and Shippensburg Fish and Game Club. Crist enjoyed all things related to transportation; classic cars, motorcycles, airplanes, and the railroad. He liked to listen to country western music and go hunting and fishing. Crist was known to be very outgoing and enjoyed driving his pick-up truck around and talking to folks around Shippensburg.
In addition to his wife of fifty-four years, Florence, he is survived by two brothers, Daniel A. Coover and wife Sonya of Findley, OH, and David F. Coover and companion, Kay Oberholzer of Shippensburg; sister-in-law, Iva A. Shughart of Mt. Holly Springs; brother-in-law, William B. Seilhamer of Chambersburg; one nephew, Aaron; four nieces, Nicole, Kathryn, Kimberly, and Aleischa; a grand-nephew, Tristan; and three grand-nieces, Edna, Francesca, and Gianna.
Crist was preceded in death by his parents.
His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Monday, July 10, 2023, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. Pastor Ed Blank will officiate. Interment will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Viewing will be one hour prior to the service on Monday afternoon at the funeral home.
