William “Bill” D. Carbaugh, Sr., 86, of Newburg, departed this life on the morning of Sunday, October 16, 2022, at WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital.
He was born on June 6, 1936, in Green Spring, PA, a son of the late David E. and Alice H. (Mixell) Carbaugh. Bill was a 1955 graduate of Shippensburg High School. He married Susan L. Abram on August 19, 1977.
Bill served as a Sergeant in the Pennsylvania National Guard, enlisting in 1955 and honorably discharged in 1962. After being discharged he worked in maintenance at Shippensburg University for thirty two years, retiring in 1989. After retiring, Bill worked for Dan Steenstra Landscaping and most recently worked as a driver for his friends in the local Amish community. He was a member of the Newburg United Methodist Church.
In his free time Bill enjoyed watching sports, mainly football and baseball. His favorite teams were the Penn State Nittany Lions, Philadelphia Eagles, and Baltimore Orioles. Bill also liked being outdoors hunting and fishing, and also camping and gardening in his younger years.
In addition to his wife of forty five years, Susan, he is survived by four sons, Jason Carbaugh and wife Tricia of Carlisle, Tony Carbaugh and wife Lori of South Mountain, James Carbaugh and wife Janelle of Lancaster, and William Carbaugh, Jr., and wife Pam of Orbisonia; two daughters, Kathy and Susan; thirteen grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and two siblings David and Betty.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by two brothers, Martin and Leroy.
His funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 22, 2022, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. The Rev. Lee Daywalt will officiate. Interment will follow in the Strang Cemetery, South Mountain. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
