William Dwayne Burt, Sr., 63, of Shippensburg, passed away the evening of Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at the Mary Washington Hospital, Fredericksburg, VA.
He was born on Wednesday, January 7, 1959 in Lubbock, TX, a son of the late William Joseph and Mary Ann (Simpson) Burt. Dwayne was a 1977 graduate of the Coronado High School, Texas, a 1981 graduate of Texas Tech University where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Textile Management, and later a 2004 graduate of Frostburg State University where he earned his Master’s in Business Administration. Dwayne was the President and CEO of Kenney Staffing, Inc.
Dwayne was a past president of the Shippensburg Chamber of Commerce. He also served as a past board president at Franklin County Career and Technology Center and was currently starting his 14th year of service as a board member for the Shippensburg Area School District. Being on the school board, Dwayne was extremely dedicated to the Shippensburg community and school district. He devoted his life to lending a helping hand to others in multiple aspects of his life and was looked at as a father and grandfather figure to many. Dwayne served on the board at the J.P. Home and was a dedicated member of Alcoholics Anonymous where he led many people towards sobriety and sponsored countless people over the years. Dwayne’s kind heart and generosity will surely be missed.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Louanne (Leone) Burt; two children, MaryCarolyn (Curtis) Felix and William D. Burt, Jr.; three granddaughters, Evalyn, CoraLyn, and Leone Felix; two siblings, Dwight Burt and D’Anne Burt; one sister-in-law, Tammi Burt; and the beloved Alosi Family who Dwayne considered part of his own family.
A celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, January 8, 2023 at 5:00 p.m. at the Grand Point Church, Shippensburg with Pastor Michael E. Allwein officiating. A visitation will be held from 3:30 p.m. until the time of the service at the church on Sunday. There will be no public viewing.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dwayne’s name to the Shippensburg Area School District Greyhound Foundation for the benefit of the Education Fund, 317 N. Morris St., Shippensburg, PA 17257.
