William Brown

William D. Brown, 78, of Shippensburg, departed this life on the morning of Saturday, February 3, 2024, at his daughter’s home.

He was born on August 4, 1945, in Chambersburg, a son of the late William B. and Dorothy J. (Wise) Brown. Bill was a United States Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War, enlisting on August 15, 1963, and honorably discharged on April 27, 1967.

Bill worked at Volvo construction equipment for many years, retiring as an assembler. He was a member of the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post #223 and a former member of the Durff-Kuhn V.F.W. Post #6168, both of Shippensburg.

In his free time Bill enjoyed working in his shed, on his vehicles, and building different things in general. He enjoyed being outdoors, doing yardwork around his home, which he was very particular with. Bill also liked to shoot guns with his son and son-in-law, care for all of his pets throughout his life, and go hunting in his younger years.

He is survived by two daughters, Lorrie Hunt and husband Scott of Shippensburg, and Angelina Darr of Chambersburg; his son, William J. “B.J.” Brown and wife Tracey of McMinnville, TN; eleven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; his brother, Richard “Ric” Brown and wife Wanda of Shippensburg; and a niece, Bethany.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded by his sister, Jeanne Baker and an infant sibling.

His private graveside funeral service will be held at on Friday, February 9, 2024, at the Spring Hill Cemetery, Shippensburg. Pastor Tim Redmond will officiate. Military honors will be conducted by the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post #223, Shippensburg.
