Wilbur A. Shope, 83, of Roxbury, passed away the afternoon of Sunday, September 19, 2021 at the Chambersburg Hospital.
He was born April 1, 1938 in Roxbury, a son of the late Wilbur A. and Sarah (Mackey) Shope.
Wilbur was a member of the Upper Strasburg Church of God, Orrstown Lodge #262 Free & Accepted Masons, and the Valley Forest #145 Tall Cedars of Lebanon. He was also a United States Navy Veteran, serving in the Vietnam War. During his service, he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. Wilbur enjoyed golfing and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his son, Michael A. Shope, Roxbury; one daughter, Lori A. (Mark) Crider, Fannettsburg; five grandchildren, Megan M. (Justin) Everhart, Melanie N. (Brandon) Fletcher, Michael J. Shope, Tucker L. Shope, and Michaela G. Shope; four great-grandchildren, Hunter L. Shope, McKinlee M. Everhart, Easton S. Everhart, and Asher A. Fletcher; and two sisters, Louise Stouffer and Sarah Baker.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Lee (Beidel) Shope who passed away on October 24, 2019. Also preceding him in death are three siblings, George Shope, Ella Mae Garman, and Charlotte McDonald.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc. with Pastor Tim Redmond officiating. Burial will be in the Roxbury Union Cemetery, with Military Honors conducted by the Shippensburg American Legion Post #223 Minutemen. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
