Wilbur K. Baker
1923 ~ 2011
Wilbur K. “Bake” Baker, 87, a resident of Menno Haven, formerly of Shippensburg, died on April 14, 2011.
Born on November 17, 1923, in Sipesville, PA, the son of the late James W. and Anna Kline Baker.
Wilbur was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, inducted on March 25, 1943 and honorably discharged on December 1, 1945. He served in the European Theater, entering combat on the fourth day after D-Day. Upon discharge he then enrolled at Gettysburg College, graduating in 1949.
Wilbur worked as a Director of Purchasing & Control Data for the Adams Electric Cooperative, Inc., retiring after 35 years of employment.
He was a member of many of the local area Lions Club Chapters, served on the Shippensburg Borough Council from 1968 until 1974, and was a member of the Good Samaritan Lodge #336 F. & A.M., Gettysburg. He also liked to golf and travel in his leisure time.
He is survived by his wife, Miriam Eveler Baker; three children, Jay A. (Roweena) Baker of Longwood, FL, Ronald G. (Vicki) Baker of Newville, and Donna K. (J. Donald) Hess of Lancaster; one step-son, Karl F. (Ann) Brandt of Mercer, PA; nine grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two wives, Frieda I. (Ogline), who died in 1958, and Darlene G. (Kennel) who died in 1976.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, April 23, 2011, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc., Shippensburg. Chaplain Robert Keener will officiate. Interment with military honors will take place at a later date. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services on Saturday, at the funeral home.
