Wilbert E. “Gib” Johnson, 84, of Shippensburg, formally of Spring Run, passed away on Sunday, January 16, 2022 at his home with his loving family by his side.
He was born on August 15, 1937 in Shade Gap, a son of the late Bower and Gail (Worley) Johnson.
Gib worked as a truck driver and mechanic for Rosenberry Bros. Lumber Company, Fannettsburg for 44 years. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting/fishing, square dancing, gardening, and racing. He also liked collecting Native American figurines and loved antique John Deere tractors. Gib also enjoyed playing softball for the Fannettsburg Froggers, playing softball up until he was 50 years old.
Gib was a lifetime member of the NRA and National Wildlife Association. He was also a proud United States Army Veteran.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dolly A. (Smith) Johnson; three children, Regina Rotz, Steven (Robin) Johnson, and Jeffrey Johnson; five grandchildren, Dustin (Sarah) Rotz, Natasha (Corey) Forest, Amanda Singer, Lindsey Johnson, and Noah Johnson; seven great-grandchildren, Sadie Rickard, Austin Rickard, Maddy Forest, Devin Singer, Kyleigh Forest, Aaliyah Singer, and Cora Rotz; six siblings, Goldie Hampton, Mae Runk, Althea Coons, Hilda Herman, Pete Johnson, and Norman Johnson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Lou Ann Johnson; and three siblings, Emery Johnson, Johnny Johnson, and Dorothy Brant.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 28, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc. The Rev. Marlin A. “Butch” Neil will officiate. Burial will be in the Upper Path Valley Cemetery with military honors. A viewing will be held the evening prior on Thursday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
