Wanda H. Sommerville, 85, a resident of Greenridge Village, Newville, formerly of 45 Hale Road, Shippensburg went home to be with the Lord surrounded by her family Thursday, April 7, 2011 in the home.
Born October 15, 1925 in Newburg, Cumberland County, she was a daughter of the late Richard and Eleanor Bricker Hoch.
She was a Registered Nurse retiring from the Scotland School for Veteran’s Children. Years ago Wanda worked for many local doctor’s offices including; Dr. Werner, Dr. Hargleroad, Dr. Stacks, Dr. Stetson, Dr. Adams, and Dr. Merchant.
She was a member of the Shippensburg First Church of God and their Women’s Berean Sunday school class. Wanda was a 1943 graduate of the Shippensburg High School and a 1946 graduate of the Washington County School of Nursing.
Wanda was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Alonzo J. Sommerville, Jr. who died October 11, 1992.
She is survived by one son, John R. Sommerville of Mount Union, three daughters; Mima Jean Willis and Sally S. Shaul of Shippensburg, and LouAnn Neidigh of Annville, two sisters; Louise Lytle and Dona Helm of Shippensburg, eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 16, 2011 in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home Inc., Shippensburg at 2p.m. Burial will be in Middle Spring Cemetery. Officiating will be the Rev. Heidi Guyer and the Rev. Rodney Biestline. The viewing will be held Saturday afternoon one hour prior to the services in the funeral home.
