Walter M. Beitler, Jr., 99, a resident of the Shook Home, Chambersburg, died in the early morning hours of Tuesday, June 30, 2015, at his residence.
He was born on October 18, 2015, in Hagerstown, MD, the son of the late Walter M. and Eva A. Morgan Beitler, Sr.
Earlier in his life Walter drove bus for Blue Ridge and Greyhound bus lines, for twenty years. Later on he worked for the former Valley Transit Mix, retiring as a Technician.
Walter was a former member of the Chambersburg First Baptist Church and more recently had attended the Chambersburg Church of the Brethren for a period of time. He was a life member of the Cumberland Valley Hose Co.; a very active member of the Fort Morris A.A.R.P., where he was involved in driver training; and also found time to volunteer at the Chambersburg Hospital. He liked to take spur-of-the-moment trips with his late wife and was known as a great dancer at the Shook Home.
He is survived by his daughter, Linda L. Caplan of Philadelphia; two grandsons, Jason F. (Sharon) Caplan of Collegeville and Sean J. (Kristen) Caplan of Pittsburgh; and four great-grandchildren, Noah, Emma, Lauryn, and Lindsey.
In addition to his parents, Walter was preceded in death by his wife, Jane E. “Betty” Morrison Beitler, who died on September 9, 2005; and his half-sister, Anna Beitler.
His memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, July, 6, 2015 at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc., Shippensburg. The Rev. Harold E. Yeager will officiate. Interment will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home.
