Walter C. “Buzz” Baker, 89, of Mainsville Road, Shippensburg, died Wednesday, November 2, 2016 in the Chambersburg Hospital.
Born February 28, 1927 in Shippensburg, he was a son of the late John W. and Laura S. Helm Baker.
Walter was a United States Army Veteran serving in WWII. He was a lifelong farmer and orchardist. Buzz retired in 1982 from Letterkenny Army Depot where he was a heavy equipment Supervisor.
Walter was a member of the Letterkenny Rod & Gun Club and the Chambersburg Rod & Gun Club. Life Member of both the Burt J. Asper American Legion Post # 46, Chambersburg and the Durff-Kuhn VFW Post # 6168, Shippensburg. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved and cherished his family and enjoyed gardening and working on old tractors.
Surviving is his wife of 63 years, Ruth A. Adams Baker whom he married December 26, 1952, two sons, Walter C. (companion Laura Carson) Baker Jr., Abbottstown and John B. (wife Kelly) Baker, two daughters, Ruth A. (husband James) Dell and Nancy L. (husband Robert L. Hewitt) Baker, he is also survived by one sister, Bessie F. Hamilton, two granddaughters, Ruth Marie Dell and Laura Grace Dell and one grandson, John B. Baker II, all of Shippensburg.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, John H. and Clarence B. Baker
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium with the Rev. Harold E. Yeager officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Shippensburg Veterans Council. A viewing will be held Monday from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday in the funeral home.
