Wallace Leach

Wallace “Wally” Leach, 89, of Chambersburg, formerly of Shippensburg, died Tuesday, January 18, 2011 in the York Hospital.
Born July 2, 1921 in Lykens, Pennsylvania, he was a son of the late Frances G. and Harriet Elizabeth Wallace Leach.
After WW11 he received his Master’s in English Literature from Penn State University and was a graduate of the Shippensburg High School. Wallace was an extraordinarily talented self taught acrylic and oil artist. He taught at the Shippensburg Area School District. He allso built and decorated furniture for the former Lesher’s Furniture Store in Shippensburg, while mastering his artistic abilities.
Wallace was a United States Army veteran of World War II, serving as a Tech Sergeant with Company B 38th Armored Infantry Division. He received the Purple Heart from injuries received during the Market Garden Campaign in Holland during October of 1944.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Catherine Hockersmith Leach who died November 23, 2004, and his sister, Jane Louise Leach Reed deceased in 1978.
He is survived by one niece, Leslie Wallace Reed Gray of Lakeside, Montana, two nephews; Stephen R. Reed of Harrisburg, and Galen B. Reed, Jr. of North Carolina, a brother in law and sister in law, Dick and Grace Hockersmith of Shippensburg, a dear friend, Haroldene Shaner of Delaware, four grandnieces and one grandnephew.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 26, 2011 in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home Inc., Shippensburg at 2:00 p.m. Officiating will be The Rev. Paul K. Hauk. Burial with military honors conducted by the Shippensburg American Legion and VFW Posts will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the services Wednesday in the funeral home.
