W. Edward Goodhart, 78, of Shippensburg, died Sunday, March 13, 2011 in his home.

Born September 27, 1931 in Shippensburg, he was a son of the late Wilber E. and Mildred Isabelle Kimpton Goodhart.

He was currently a member of the Shippensburg Borough Council and Chairman of the Shippensburg Water Authority. Ed retired in 1989 from the United States Department of Defense at Fort Ritchey where he was a Computer Specialist and Program Analyst.

He was a life member of both the Durff-Kuhn VFW Post # 6168 and the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post # 223 and a member of the PA Train Collectors Association. Ed was a 1949 graduate of the Shippensburg Area Senior High School and a graduated from Indiana Technical Institute in Fort Wayne. He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Elva Jane Freed Goodhart and their favorite pet Labrador Retriever, Daisy, two sisters; Ursula Criswell of Chambersburg and Winifred Mills of Jacksonville, FL, 2 nephews; H. Clay Criswell of Pittsburgh and Patrick Mills of Jacksonville, FL, two nieces; Melodie Lensbower of Chambersburg and Kathleen Berger of Jacksonville and numerous other nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 17, 2011 at 2 p.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home Inc., Shippensburg. Officiating will be The Rev. Paul K. Hauk, Mr. Dennis W. McMaster, and Mr. H. Clay Criswell. Burial with military honors conducted by the Shippensburg VFW and American Legion Posts will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery. A viewing will be held Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. in the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter, 2325 Country Road, Chambersburg, PA 17201 or the American Cancer Society, 384 Floral Ave., Chambersburg, PA 17201 or a favorite charity.
