Vonnie J. Eckenrode, 74, of Shippensburg, departed this life on the morning of Monday, August 6, 2018, at the Chambersburg Hospital.
She was born on February 11, 1944, in Shippensburg, a daughter of the late Charles Melvin and Daisy M. Coffey Holtry and was a 1961 graduate of Shippensburg High School.
Vonnie worked as a purchasing agent at the Letterkenny Army Depot, from where she retired. After retiring, she continued working, for United Defense and then for Lutheran Home Care.
Vonnie was a member of the Leesburg united Methodist Church. She enjoyed watching her family’s sporting events and was always taking care of her family. Vonnie enjoyed traveling to the beach. In her younger years, she liked to go bowling.
She is survived by her three sons, Shawn R. (Penny) Eckenrode of Walnut Bottom, Rodney S. Eckenrode of Shippensburg, and Troy A. Eckenrode of Shippensburg; seven grandchildren, Shawn, Jr., Heather, Noah, Alex, Max, and Daisy Eckenrode and Brittany (Andrew) Them; her sister, Ethel “Mookie” Frelin; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Vonnie was preceded in death by her brother, Ronald M. Holtry.
Her funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m., on Monday, August 13, 2018, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. Pastor Bobby Culler will officiate. Interment will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Viewing will be Monday morning from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
