Vivian Myers

February 25, 1941 — November 30, 2015

Vivian C. Myers, 74, of Shippensburg, departed this life on the morning of Monday, November 30, 2015, with her husband by her side.

She was born on February 25, 1941, in Shippensburg, a daughter of Glen Glessner and the late Ethel Harris Glessner and married Charlie Myers on December 27, 1986, in Shippensburg.

Vivian worked at the James Burd Elementary School for thirty years, retiring as a Life Skills Aide in November of 2015. She enjoyed working at the school and “her kids” immensely.

Since 1983, Vivian and Charlie have been to every fire service related convention and her memberships and involvement with fire service at the local, county, and state level were vast. She was a charter member of the Shippensburg Fire Safety Education Task Force, established in 1987 and also served as its sectetary/treasurer. She was a life-member of the Vigilant Hose Co. #1, Shippensburg; a member of the Vigilant Hose Co. #1, Auxiliary; life-member of the Cumberland County Volunteer Fireman’s Association; a member of the Cumberland Valley Fireman’s Association; a member of the Fireman’s Association of the State of Pennsylvania, of which she served on several committees, and was a life-member of the Women’s Auxiliary, 2002 past-president, and was awarded women of the year in 2008. She also counted the Pennsylvania Forest Fire Museum Association amongst her memberships as well.

She and Charlie were also interested in trains and antique steam engines/tractors and would take trips to ride on the different rail lines, watch trains, and visit the local tractor shows. She was a member of the Williams Grove Historical Steam Engine Association; the Cumberland Valley Antique Engine and Machinery Association; and the Harrisburg Chapter of the National Rail Road Historical Society.

Vivian was a long-time member of the Shippensburg First Church of God. She was also a member of the Fort Morris A.A.R.P. #3324, the Durff-Kuhn V.F.W. #6168 and the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion #223, all of Shippensburg, and could frequently be found trying her luck on the “fish bowls” at the clubs. She also enjoyed playing bingo, country music, singing, and dancing. In the fall, she and Charlie would stay at their cabin “Camp Charlie” in the Lower Horse Valley, where they would celebrate the holidays and Vivian would work on her jigsaw puzzles into the early morning hours, long after everyone else had gone to sleep.

She is survived by her husband of 29 years, Charles E. Myers; five children, Kimberly A. Morrison of Harrisburg, Pandora L. “Pam” Morrison of North Dakota, Victoria L. (John) Swartzbaugh of Spring Grove; David A. (Wanda) Morrison of Hanover, and Scott B. (Victoria) Morrison of New York; two step-children, Elizabeth Robinson of Shippensburg and Bradley C. (Linda) Myers of Mechanicsburg; a granddaughter whom she raised, Jamie (Randal) Rowles of Shippensburg; eight grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; one step-great granddaughter; two sisters, Sondra (Ed Hillegas) Stevens of Shippensburg, Anita (John) Beam of McConnellsburg; one brother, Dennis Glessner of Shippensburg; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her mother, Vivian was preceded in death by one brother at birth, Edward and two great grandchildren.

Her funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, December 5, 2015, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc., Shippensburg. Pastor Jim Rogers will officiate. Mr. Randy O’Donnell will give the eulogy. Interment will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Viewing will be Friday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at the funeral home.
