Virginia G. (Geyer) Starliper, 83, of Shippensburg, passed away the evening of Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at home.
She was born on October 25, 1939 in Chambersburg, a daughter of the late Harold M. and Gail V. (Detrich) Geyer.
Virginia was a 1957 graduate of the Shippensburg High School and received her bachelor’s degree from Shippensburg State College in 1965. She retired from Letterkenny Army Depot as a computer programmer analyst. After retirement, she worked part-time as a book keeper at the Shippensburg Public Library.
Virginia was a United States Air Force Veteran, something she was extremely proud of. She was also a member of the Durff-Kuhn VFW Post #6168 Ladies Auxiliary, and was part of the Better Day Seniors at the former First Wesleyan Church, Walnut Bottom. She attended Lurgan United Brethren Church where she was very active in teaching Bible studies, Sunday School, Children’s Church, and Vacation Bible School. Virginia loved to sew, quilt, and read. She was an avid learner and always impressed others with her sharp memory.
She is survived by her three daughters, Ginger (Wayne) Poffenberger of Mechanicsburg, V. Kyline (Jeffrey) Keefer of Newburg, and Anna M. (John) Trace of Fayetteville; five grandchildren, Michelle (EJ) Helman, Shallon Wing, Laura (Anthony) Torres, Tabatha Wing, and Rose Wing; 18 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; three siblings, Harold (Marilea) Geyer, Jr., John (Sue) Geyer, and Trudy (John) Borrelli; and numerous stepchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Melvin Rosenberry, Jr.; second husband, Gerald E. “Red” Starliper; two grandchildren, Ronald E. “Gene” Keefer, Jr. and Kyline Christina “Chrisy” Avey; three great-grandchildren, Leeairra Ann, Braydon Lee, and Larissa; and several stepchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. Rev. John Geyer will officiate. Burial will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Minutemen of the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post #223. A viewing will be held Monday evening from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
