Vesta B. Pittman, 90, a resident of the Menno Village, Chambersburg, died on the evening of Tuesday, November 6, 2012, at the Chambersburg Hospital.
She was born on March 20, 1922, in Orrstown, a daughter of the late Zook S. and Clara Heberlig Brenize. Vesta was a 1939 graduate of Shippensburg High School and a 1943 graduate of the Shippensburg State Teachers College. On July 23, 1961, she married Mr. Sylvester G. Pittman at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Orrstown, PA. He preceded her in death on December 11, 2002.
Vesta retired from D.E.S.C.O.M., Letterkenny Army Depot, in 1977, after 33 years of employment. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church; a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, A.A.R.P., the Antique Auto Club of America and an Honorary Member of the A.A.C.A. Museum, the Lincoln Continental Owners Club, a life member of the Lincoln Foundation, and a charter member of the Valley Cedarettes.
She is survived by her step-son, Larry S. (Lois) Pittman of Greencastle; her sister, Kathryn Poe of Chambersburg; two step-grandchildren; two step-great granddaughters, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Vesta was preceded in death by her brother, George Brenize, who died in September of 1995.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:45 p.m. on Friday, November 9, 2012, at Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg. The Rev. Vernon Isner will officiate. There will be no public viewing or visitation.
