Velma Runk

May 11, 1932 — January 21, 2018

Velma Virginia Runk, went to Heaven at 9:25 a.m. Sunday, 21 January, surrounded by her loving family, to meet her Heavenly Father, her son and many relatives and friends.

Born Wednesday, 11 May 1932 in Willow Hill, her parents were Harry M. and Elsa Mae O’Donnell Hockenberry.
Velma attended schools in Metal Township. She was a stay at home mother until her children were in high school. At that time she went to work as a seamstress at the former Stanley Manufacturing Co., Chambersburg, retiring in 1988 with 20 years of service. After retirement, Velma and her husband traveled extensively to almost every state, visiting historical sites and National Parks. Her favorite parks were Yellowstone, Glacier, and Custer State Park with its many wild animals. There were also many trips to Civil War sites in various states. She also had a small interest in genealogy research which at that time required much overnight travel.

Velma’s favorite sports teams were the New York Yankees, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Penn State football. She also greatly enjoyed watching and cheering for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren at their baseball and soccer games.

Velma is survived by her husband Robert B. Runk of Chambersburg. Their marriage of sixty nine years was one of much love for each other and their family. She is also survived by her sons, Kenneth C. Runk and wife Becky of Chambersburg, Leonard R. Runk and wife Debra of Upper Strasburg; daughter in-law Doris Jean Runk of Scotland; seven grandchildren; and twelve great grandchildren. She was always happiest when being surrounded by her great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her son Robert E. Runk.
