V. Arlene Zook, 78, of Shippensburg, departed this life on the morning of Tuesday, November 30, 2021.
She was born on March 7, 1943, in Chambersburg, a daughter of the late Lee Unger and John and Esther (Brandt) Kegerreis. Arlene was a graduate of Shippensburg Area High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in music from West Chester University.
After graduating, Arlene became an elementary music teacher in Spring Grove for several years. She then worked for the former Ingersoll-Rand Co., and as a secretary for sixteen years at D & S Machine, Lancaster. Arlene’s true passion was music though and she taught private piano lessons in the Shippensburg Area for many, many, years throughout her life.
Arlene was a member of the Messiah United Methodist Church, Shippensburg, where she played accompanying piano for the chancel and children’s choir. She enjoyed going to concerts and organizing piano recitals for all of her students over the years. If you knew Arlene, then you knew how much she enjoyed sending her family and friends cards and stickers, so much so, that she became known fondly as the ‘card lady.” Many will remember Arlene as simply a very kind and generous person to know.
She is survived by her son, Christopher Brown of Shippensburg; her daughter, Amy Sigler of Shippensburg; four grandchildren, Kristina Spackman of NC, Hunter Brown of AL, and Sierra and Mariah Sigler, both of Newburg; and three great grandchildren, Sully and Graham Spackman of NC and Axle Seigler of Newburg.
In addition to her biological parents and step-father, Arlene was preceded in death by a grandson, Colton Brown, who died in February of 2009.
Her memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, December 4, 2021, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. The Rev. Dr. Francis H. Norton and Rev. Bob Vizthum will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the memorial service on Saturday morning at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Messiah United Methodist Church.
