Thomas Ginnick

January 30, 1948 — August 19, 2018

Thomas L. Ginnick, 70, of Shippensburg, departed this life on the morning of Sunday, August 19, 2018, at his home.

He was born on January 30, 1948, in Chambersburg, the son of the late Charles C. and Dolores J. Reese Ginnick and was a 1965 graduate of Shippensburg High School. Although he was drafted to play baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals, Tom enlisted in the U.S Air Force, where he served in special forces. He served his country bravely, with pride, and was honorably discharged in 1968. Tom married Kathleen M. Hopkins on October 28, 1972.

Tom had a thirty-five year career with Sprint, retiring in 2003 as the Eastern Region Director of Security. He was currently serving his third term as Township Supervisor of Southampton Township, Cumberland County, to which he was elected in 2004.

He was also a longtime member and current president of the C.F.J.M.A. and a founding board member of Cornerstone Federal Credit Union. Tom will be remembered as a constant and tireless supporter of Shippensburg area athletics of all ages. He was actively involved in Shippensburg Area Little League, where he coached, umpired, and served on the board of directors. Tom was also active with the Shippensburg Athletic Association where he served as a long-time board member/officer. He was instrumental in the development of the Southampton Cumberland Park and Recreation Program. Additionally, Tom was pivotal in the creation of Tiger Stadium in Cleversburg.

Tom was a member of the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion, the Hub City Club, and the Minnequa. In his free time, Tom enjoyed bowling, golfing, and playing pool, cards, and roulette. He and a close group of friends played cards monthly for over forty years now. Tom was a very devoted husband, father, and grandfather, who loved spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife of forty-five years, Kathleen, he is survived by his two daughters, Melany L. (Bernard) Froio and Megan L. (Daniel) Witmer, both of Shippensburg; three grandchildren, Bernard Thomas Froio, Nicholas Ginnick Froio, and Daniel Preston Witmer IV; and one grandchild soon on the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, August 23, 2018, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. Pastor Bruce Levy will officiate.
