Thomas Baker

August 7, 1944 — April 21, 2017

Thomas Franklin “Tom” Baker, 72, of Shippensburg, departed this life on the afternoon of Friday, April 21, 2017, at his home.

He was born on August 7, 1944, in Spring Run, the son of the late John G. and Vivian M. Edmonson Baker. Tom was a 1962 graduate of Fannett-Metal High School. He married Emma Jane Yohe on August 15, 1971 in Cleversburg.

Earlier in life, Tom worked as a delivery driver for the former Valley Pride Bakery, Shippensburg, and as an insurance agent for the Washington National Insurance Co., Chambersburg, earning the East Coast Top Agent award in 1980. He was also employed as a salesman at Interstate Ford, Shippensburg, and at Shively Motors, Chambersburg, from where he retired in 2002.

Tom was a member of the Upper Path Valley Presbyterian Church for over fifty years and a former member and past-president of the Path Valley Lions Club #6529. He was an announcer at many of the local area race tracks and once had his own racing talk show “The Checkered Flag” on the former WSHP radio station. In his leisure time Tom enjoyed camping, hunting, bowling, going to races, and in his later years, traveling. In recent years, with the birth of his three grandchildren, Tom enjoyed spending as much time as possible with his family, which was very important to him.

He is survived by his wife of forty-five years, Emma; his son, Jonathan R. (Leslie) Baker of Greencastle; three grandchildren, Gavin J., Jocelyn J., and Grayson J. Baker, all of Greencastle; and his sister, Katie (Donald) Ile of Spring Run.

Tom’s funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, April 25, 2017, at the Upper Path Valley Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Dr. Meagan Boozer and Rev. Marlin “Butch” Neil will officiate. Interment will be private. Viewing will be Monday evening, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg, and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church.
