Thelma H. Franklin, 94, of Shippensburg, died Wednesday, June 8, 2011 in Menno Haven, Chambersburg.
Born July 22, 1916 in Newville, Cumberland County, she was a daughter of the late Edward H. and Carrie L. Powell Hanlin.
Thelma was a retired Elementary School Teacher and was a member of Messiah United Methodist Church in Shippensburg, Shippensburg Historical Society, Shippensburg Civic Club and P.E.O. Chapter AG, Chambersburg. She was a graduate of the Carlisle High School and the former Normal School in Shippensburg. Thelma enjoyed playing Bridge.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Franklin, Sr. who died August 3, 1976, four brothers, S. Paul, Walter “Pete”, Frank, and Raymond Hanlin and two sisters, Emma Shuman and Gladys Graham.
Thelma is survived by two sons, Dr. John A. Franklin, Jr. and his wife Virginia of Shippensburg, and Jeffrey P. Franklin and his wife Sue of Charleston, SC, three grandchildren, John J. Franklin of Shippensburg, Brittney A. Franklin of Baltimore, MD, and Alexander J. Franklin of Charleston, SC, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 15, 2011 in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home Inc., Shippensburg at 11 a.m. Officiating will be The Rev. Kevin E. Hughes and The Rev. Dr. Francis H. Norton. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery. A viewing will be held Wednesday morning one hour prior to the services in the funeral home.
