Thelma A. Black, 92, of Shippensburg, died on Thursday, May 12, 2011, at her home.

Born on October 4, 1918, in Walnut Bottom, a daughter of the late David E. and Laura E. Helm Spangler.

Thelma was a homemaker throughout her life. She enjoyed reading, especially newspapers, flowers, and cooking. She was known for her excellent ham pot pie.

She is survived by two daughters, Phyllis L. (Harold) Marpoe of Shippensburg and Barbara L. Black of Carlisle; one sister, Elizabeth Black of Shippensburg; one brother, Herman Spangler of Boiling Springs; four grandsons; three great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John E. Black, who died on June 6, 1991 and three sisters.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at the Westminster Cemetery, Carlisle. The Rev. Frank L. Mathna will officiate. Viewing will be Monday evening, from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc., Shippensburg.
