Teddy Earle Mitten met his Father face to face on August 16, 2015. Ted was born May 11, 1947 to Lewis and Dolora (Scott) Mitten. He was a 1965 graduate of Shippensburg Area High School, a 1973 graduate of Messiah College, and a 1979 graduate of Ashland Theological Seminary (OH). With a heart for the Lord, he became a pastor and was ordained by the Church of the Nazarene and later the Wesleyan Denomination.
He was truly the hands of Jesus while he was a missionary for three years in Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Swaziland, Africa with the Brethren-in-Christ and Nazarene Church from 1967-1970.
Ted continued sharing God’s love by pastoring at the New Cumberland Nazarene Church (PA), Ashland Brethren-in-Christ Church, and Detroit Avenue Wesleyan Church (OH). With a desire to help others and to comfort them, he later became a chaplain. He served from 1989-2013 at St. Vincent’s Mercy Medical Center, Toledo (OH), and recently, for Gentiva Hospice Services.
His parents preceded him in death. Ted is survived by his wife of 12 years, Etta Jane Fritts (MI), his first wife, Lois McElhaney Rosenberry, and their children, Jessica (Patrick) DeViney, Sara (Thomas) Harris, and Laura (Jesse) Cruz along with his six grandchildren. He is also survived by his stepchildren Jon (Christina) McCloud, Joshua (Jennifer) McCloud, and Megan (Gerran) Brown and their seven children. His siblings are Brian Mitten, Larry (June) Mitten, Darla (John) Illo, and Sherre Mitten Bell along with many beloved nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to attend a memorial service to be held Saturday, August 29 at 2 p.m. at the Shippensburg Church of the Nazarene, 415 E Orange Street. A separate burial service will be held at Spring Hill Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
