Susan E. Witmer, 95, a resident of the Mennonite Fellowship Home, Hagerstown, MD, formerly of Shippensburg, died on Friday, March 2, 2012.
She was born on March 7, 1916, in Letterkenny Twp., Franklin County, a daughter of the late Maurice and Martha Sollenberger Mentzer. On October 7, 1937, she was married to Mr. Irvin E. Witmer, at her home, by her father. He preceded her in death on September 24, 1987.
Susan was a homemaker throughout her life. She enjoyed quilting and sewing, reading and word find, and also gardening, when she was able.
She is survived by one son, Robert M. (Sharon) Witmer of Chamersburg; her daughter Ruth Anne (John M.) Frey of Doylesburg; two brothers, M. Benjamin (Jane) Mentzer of Dunannon and J. Allen (Kay) Mentzer of Fayetteville; five sisters, Alma Hock of Shippensburg, Kathryn Frey of Chambersburg, Marian (Earl) Frey of Chambersburg, Lois (Howard) Kipe of Waynesboro, Sara (Leon) Diller of Big Fork, MT; eight grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Glen E. Witmer; three sisters, Anna Keller, Mary Wenger, and Fannie Diller, and one granddaughter, Maria Witmer.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 6, 2012, at the Stoughstown Mennonite Church at 3715 Ritner Highway Newville, PA 17241. The Stoughstown Mennonite Church ministry will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Viewing will be held Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the services on Tuesday, at church.
Her family requests the omission of flowers.
