Susan L. Spero, 70, of Shippensburg, departed this life on the morning of Thursday, March 28, 2024, at her home.
She was born on October 5, 1953, in Kittanning, Armstrong Co., Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late Edward and Lois (Thompson) Kirkwood. Susan married Ralph E. Spero on July 2, 1980, in Shippensburg.
For the majority of her life, Susan was employed as an accountant for several different businesses throughout the Cumberland Valley, retiring in 2020. She was also a self-employed tax preparer for many, many years, and continued to work at that from home, after her retirement from accounting.
In her free time Susan enjoyed traveling, especially taking cruises. She also liked to craft, focusing on needlework and embroidery. Susan was an active member of the West End Fire and Rescue Co. 15, helping with their fund raisers over the years, and she was part of a professional women’s business organization, where she made many friends over the years. Susan also attended the Leesburg United Methodist Church, Shippensburg, in recent years, which she really came to enjoy and love.
In addition to her husband of forty-four years, Ralph, she is survived by four siblings, Sheila Slader of Ford City, PA, Todd Kirkwood of Ford City, PA, Scott Kirkwood of Manorville, PA, and Lisa Gamble of Tennessee; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Susan was preceded in death by two brothers, Mark and Jeffrey Kirkwood.
Her funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. There will be no public viewing, visitation, or funeral service. Interment will also be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Leesburg United Methodist Church.
