Susan G. (Prutzman) Piper, 73, of Shippensburg, passed away the morning of Saturday, January 27, 2024 at the Temple University Hospital.
She was born on Tuesday, November 7, 1950 in Camden, NJ, a daughter of the late Walter G. and Frances C. Zimmerman Prutzman.
Sue was a 1968 graduate of Collingswood High School, NJ and obtained her B.A. in education from Davis & Elkins College. She was a primary/secondary art teacher for 18 years at Audubon School District in New Jersey and 24 years as an art teacher in the Big Spring School District. Each tenure involved athletic coaching and support for every school activity which occurred.
Retiring in 2014, she was sidelined by Hodgkins Lymphoma, from which she gained and remained in remission. Until the disabling impact of lung disease, Sue was active at Memorial Lutheran Church, particularly with her friends on the Fellowship Committee. She was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi and served on the board of Katie’s Place of Shippensburg, Inc.. There, she guided an amazing family of volunteers in the development and operation of Katie’s Place Thrift Shop.
She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Galen E. Piper; one son, Zack R. (Cristi) Piper; two grandchildren, Lennon and Nash; brother, Richard G. (Renee) Prutzman of Haddonfield, NJ and their children, Eric (son, Caleb) and Rachel of NJ; brother, Paul B. (Christine) Prutzman of Collingswood, NJ, and their children, Katelyn Prutzman (son, Jackson Behm) of Ft. Collins, CO, Brett (Paige) Prutzman of Santa Barbara, CA, and Cole Prutzman of Ft. Collins, CO.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Memorial Lutheran Church, Shippensburg. Pastors Godfred Effisah, Bonnie Hoffman, Mike Allwein, and Bruce Levy will officiate. A luncheon will follow the service at the church. A time of visitation with the family will be held Friday, February 23, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc. and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
