Susan Robertson Minick (Sue), 90, died June 21, 2024, in the Menno Haven Community, Chambersburg, PA. Born February 15, 1934, in Doylesburg, she was the youngest of three daughters of Childerson and Hazel Burk Robertson. For 69 years, she was married to her beloved Glenn S. Minick, who died in 2023. She is survived by her daughter, Kathryn (Karen), Wichita, KS, son, Jim (Sarah), Wythe County, VA, and brother-in-law, William (Becky), Newburg, along with several cousins, nieces, and their families.
In addition to her husband and parents, Sue was preceded in death by her sisters, Ruth Sims and Alma Robertson, and her brothers-in-law, Harry and Donald, and sister-in-law, Joan.
Sue was raised in the Doylesburg Methodist Church, then later joined Newburg United Methodist Church. She loved and served the church in many capacities, especially teaching, singing, and working at the Clothing Center.
She graduated from Fannett Township High School in 1952 and Shippensburg State Teachers College in 1956. She then taught elementary school, mainly Kindergarten, for over 30 years. Sue called herself the “Grandma of Kindergarten,” having started these classes in both Fannett-Metal and Big Spring School Districts, and she was one of the first Kindergarten teachers in the Shippensburg School District, where she spent most of her career.
In addition to serving her church, Sue also served on Newburg Borough Council and volunteered at the Chambersburg Hospital for many years. She was a charter member of Dessie Priscilla Rebekah Lodge #100 and later joined Lady Landis Lodge #303. Sue was a lifetime member of the Pennsylvania State Education Association, the National Education Association, a member of the Fort Morris AARP, and Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees.
Sue lived most of her life in Newburg before moving to Menno Haven in 2005, where she volunteered in many capacities, including the Auxiliary Treasure Chest and “Sue’s News.” She was a “people person,” visiting and sending cards to many and joining others in song. She loved sharing the beauty of flowers with all passersby, wherever she lived.
Sue enjoyed reading and especially playing games. She also enjoyed traveling. She and Glenn visited all 50 states, as well as Russia, China, Australia, Israel, Egypt, New Zealand, Ireland, Scotland, England, Mexico, and Canada. They also spent many winters in Florida and the Southwest U.S. Their children have many fond memories of summer camping trips all over the country.
