Stanley D. Walker

Stanley Duane Walker, 72, of Carlisle and formerly of Shippensburg, is now at rest after passing Monday morning, November 26, 2012, at the Sarah A. Todd Memorial Home, Carlisle. Born on December 4, 1939, in Torrington, Wyoming, he was the son of the late Wallace F. Walker and Marie Brewer Walker. Stanley leaves behind his loving wife of 39 years, Augie Tomeo Walker. They were married at Our Lady of the Visitation Catholic Church, Shippensburg, in 1973, where they are both members.
Stanley earned an associate’s degree from Eastern Wyoming College, and then a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wyoming, and began a teaching career before being called to serve his country in the United States Army. During his enlistment, he was assigned to duty in Korea with the Army I Corps during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged, and awarded a National Defense Service Medal. Following his service, Stanley accepted a position with the Department of the Army as a systems analyst at the Navajo Army Depot in Flagstaff, AZ. He then accepted a position with Systems Integrated Management Agency (SIMA East), located at Letterkenny Army Depot, retiring in 1996. Stanley was a life member of both Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post #223 and Durff-Kuhn V.F.W Post #6168.
He will be warmly remembered by his family, friends, and past colleagues for his persistent smile, quick wit, and ability to always bring laughter and insight to any conversation. His boastful laugh will be sorely missed. Stanley had many interests and hobbies including his avid love of reading, music, photography, homemade bread baking, and gardening. He dedicated countless hours volunteering with the Shippensburg University Fashion Archives as a photographer, and along with his wife, was an ardent supporter of the university in general, establishing a scholarship fund in 2009. He and his wife were also very well traveled, visiting as many states, national parks and landmarks as they could. Many in the Shippensburg community will remember him from his daily walks around town following his retirement.
Stanley is survived by his brother, Glenn Walker and his wife Ruth Ann Walker of Grand Junction, Colorado. In addition, he is survived by his sons, Eric Walker and his wife Crystal Collier-Walker of Fayetteville, and Marc Walker of Waynesboro. He also leaves behind his pride and joy, three grandchildren, whom provided special comfort to him during his final days: Tyler Collier, Aedan Walker, and Nicholas Walker. He will be missed by many cousins, nieces, nephews, grand nieces, and grand nephews.
Professional services are being handled by Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc., Shippensburg. A visitation will begin at 2:00 PM, and a memorial service will follow at 3:00 PM on Sunday, December 2, 2012 at Our Lady of the Visitation Catholic Church in Shippensburg with the Rev. David A. Hillier as celebrant. A private interment by the immediate family will be held at the Spring Hill Cemetery, Shippensburg, at a later date.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff and administration of the Sarah A. Todd Memorial Home for their excellent care, support, and kindness during Stan’s battle with brain cancer.
