Sherman Mason

Sherman Jacob Mason, 89, of Carlisle, passed away Thursday, May 2, 2024 at UPMC West Shore Hospital.

Born Tuesday, August 14, 1934 in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, he was a son of the late Roy Denton Mason and Dora Atha May Stine Eames.

Sherman was of the Christian Faith. He served over 21 years in the United States Army during the Vietnam and Korean Wars.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, model trains, going to casinos, playing horseshoes, shooting pool, and Sunday poker games. Sherman loved eating fried potatoes, lima beans, and Steely’s sausage.

He is survived by his wife of nine years, Esther Jane Gift Mason, whom he married August 11, 2014; two sons, Sherman R. (Brenda) Mason and David L. (Rose) Mason, all of Shippensburg; four daughters, Doris J. Mason, Virginia, Tammy L. (Dennis) Shields, Upper Strasburg, Sindy K. (Charles) Sanders, Chambersburg, and Brenda J. Zinn, Newville; one step-daughter, Amber J. (Spencer) Cooley, Shippensburg; 20 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; one brother, Paul Mason, Cleversburg; three sisters, Gladys Reynolds, Warren, MD, Sally Johnson, Tyler, TX, and Edna May Souders, Newville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Emma A. Furry Mason; one daughter, Linda D. Redcay, one brother, Jack Mason; one sister, Joyce Ritter; one grandson, Timothy Marpoe; son in-law, Mark Zinn; brother-in-law, Jay Reed, and sister-in-law, May Mason.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 9, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium Inc., with The Rev. Marlin A. “Butch” Neil officiating. Burial will be in Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery with full Military Honors. A viewing will be held Wednesday, May 8, 2024 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Thursday, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium Inc. to help defer funeral expenses.
