Shelby Nenninger

April 20, 1940 — May 22, 2017

Shelby Jean Nenninger, 77, of Shippensburg, departed this life on the morning of Monday, May 22, 2017.

She was born on April 20, 1940, in Carlisle, a daughter of the late Raymond L. and Dorcas A. Unger Cummings, Sr., and married Ned E. Nenninger on October 19, 1957 in Leesburg.

Shelby was employed at Shippensburg University, working in the Reisner Dining Hall; was a noontime aid at James Burd Elementary School; and was also a homemaker throughout her life.

Shelby was an excellent cook, enjoyed canning, and liked to shop. At home she spent time birdwatching, especially the goldfinches and cardinals, and enjoyed watching soap operas on television. Shelby was always known to have a love of the big bodied, long style of cars, mainly Buick and Cadillac, and owned quite a few throughout her life. Time spent with her family was very important to her, especially during the all the holidays, when she made it known that everyone should come around to celebrate and all be together.

In addition to her husband, Ned, she is survived by five sons, Lester R. Nenninger of Orrstown, Gordon E. Nenninger of Carlisle, Michael L. Nenninger of Ft. Myers Beach, FL, Robert K. Nenninger of Shippensburg, and Troy A. Nenninger of Marysville; one daughter, Glenda J. Nenninger of Philadelphia; ten grandchildren; two great grandchildren; five sisters, June I. Roqueplot, A. Barbara Coons, Cindy L. Ferry, Rita J. Fox, and Connie K. Hanley; two brothers, Charles E. and Dale E. Cummings; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Shelby was preceded in death by one son, Randy Ned Nenninger, who died on October 10, 1977; two brothers, Raymond L. Cummings, Jr., and Phillip L. Cummings; and two sisters, Joyce L. Miley and Juanita M. Shetler.

Her funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Friday, May 26, 2017, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. Rev. Robert L. Mentzer will officiate. Interment will follow in the Parklawns Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.
