Scott McClellan Koser, Jr., 87, died peacefully on December 24, 2019, surrounded by family and an abundance of love.
Born on October 19, 1932 in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, Scott grew up loving his family, baseball, and his country. After graduating from high school, Scott enlisted in the United States Navy where he served upon several aircraft carriers during the Korean War. After his time in the Navy, Scott came home to Pennsylvania where he went on to college to become a teacher. Scott taught for 32 years in both Pennsylvania and Montgomery County, Maryland. He was a favorite teacher of many of his social studies and geography students.
Scott was a devoted and loving husband to his true love, Lucy Maclay Koser and an incredible father to his daughter, Susan. Scott absolutely loved his Washington Nationals and his Caps and enjoyed making little wagers on his baseball team with his best friend. He was also an avid Jeopardy fan and would compete against his daughter each night after dinner. Scott was a beloved brother and uncle to many. Scott loved his country and was a proud American. Scott had a quick wit and was loved by everyone he met.
Scott is survived by his only child, Susan Wylie Koser Riggs, his son in law, Gregory Lawrence Riggs, and Greg's son, Nathan Gregory Riggs of Fayetteville, North Carolina. The family is overwhelmed by the outpouring of love for Scott from friends, former students, and people who never even met him who simply loved watching his journey.
His graveside memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, April 17, 2021, in the Middle Spring Cemetery, Shippensburg. The Rev. Kimberley D. Wadlington will officiate. Military honors will be bestowed by the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post #223, Shippensburg.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
