Sarah Sipes

Sarah Ellen Sipes, 93, life-long resident of Shippensburg, departed this life in the late evening hours of October 22, 2015, at the Shippensburg Health Care Center, where she had resided for years.

She was born on August 15, 1922, in Shippensburg, a daughter of the late Stewart W. and Annie M. Tarner Bigler.

Sarah was a seamstress over a forty year career at many of the former local garment factories, retiring in 1998, with the Greif Co. She put her sewing expertise to use at home too, making and mending clothing for her family. Sarah also enjoyed reading in her free time.

She is survived by her daughter, Anna M. Bittinger of Shippensburg; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Sarah was preceded in death by her son, Stephen Sipes; sister, Margaret Smith; brother, George Bigler; and great grandson, Christopher Unger.

Her funeral services, entrusted to the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Inc., Shippensburg, will be private.
