Sara Adeline Stewart, 77, of Shippensburg, passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2011 in the Chambersburg Hospital.
Born August 31, 1933 in East Waterford, PA, she was a daughter of the late Wayne and Blanche Ryder Piper.
Sara was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Massena, NY and attended Messiah United Methodist Church in Shippensburg. She was a member of Greene Township Lions Club and Falling Spring AARP # 2840. Sara was a 1951 graduate of the former Fannett Township High School.
A generous loving person Sara loved her family and enjoyed traveling. She supported the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.
She was preceded in death by her husband A. Joseph Burgoyne who died August 5, 1999 and three sisters; Mary Piper, Charlotte Locke, and Geraldine Cranson.
Sara is survived by her husband Glenn Rex Stewart whom she married April 16, 2004, three daughters; Judy George and her husband Joseph, Diana Gabri and her husband Richard all of Massena, NY, Michele Bronchetti and her husband Thomas of Rochester, NY, one son, Timothy Burgoyne and his wife Amy of Carrollton, TX, one step-son, William Stewart and his wife Nikki of Fayetteville, PA, one step-daughter, Glenda Stewart and her husband Mark Keller of York, PA, one brother, Daniel Piper and his wife Barbara of Doylesburg, PA, six grandchildren; Michael Boychuk, Daniel and Benjamin George, Sara Hansen, Casey Simonds, and Jake Bronchetti, one step-grandson, Zachary Stewart, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 1, 2011 in the Messiah United Methodist Church, Shippensburg at 11 a.m. Officiating will be The Rev. Kevin E. Hughes and The Rev. Dr. Francis H. Norton. Burial will be private at the Calvary Cemetery, Massena, NY. There will be no viewing, however a visitation will be held one hour prior to the services in church on Friday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to Messiah United Methodist Church, 30 South Penn Street, Shippensburg, PA 17257 or Trinity Catholic School, 188 Main Street, Massena, NY 13662.
