Sandra Kay “Sandy” Hockenberry, 75, of Shippensburg, passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 at her home.
Born Tuesday, May 30, 1944 in Shippensburg, she was a daughter of the late John M. and Elva R. Dyarman Hershey.
Sandy was a graduate of the Shippensburg High School. She worked in food service at the Shippensburg University with 25 years of service. Sandy was a member of the Prince Street United Brethren Church and a former teacher for their kinder garden class. She loved knitting prayer blankets, cooking, and riding horses in her younger days. Sandy loved and cherished her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Jack E. Hockenberry, whom she married May 2, 1964; one son, John T. Hockenberry, Fairplay, MD, one granddaughter, Nicole M. Zabrucky, Waynesboro; one grandson, Sean A. Zabrucky, Chambersburg; one sister, Mildred Priest, Shippensburg brother in-law, Larry (Sharon) Hockenberry, Shippensburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Loretta Craig, Mary Jane Bender, V. Jean Kelley, and Pat Lovell; six brothers, Daniel Hershey, John Hershey, Jr., Bruce Hershey, Frank Hershey, Sr., Richard Hershey and Wayne Hershey, Sr.
A private graveside service was held in the Spring Hill Cemetery, with the Rev. Michael Wentz officiating. Her public celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, August 22, 2020, in the Prince Street United Brethren Church, Shippensburg.
