Samuel E. “Sam” Gehrett, 88, of Shippensburg, passed away Wednesday, February 15, 2017 in the Chambersburg Hospital.
He was born July 21, 1928 in Chambersburg, PA. Sam was a son of the late Walter and Zelda Stenson Gehrett.
He retired from Charles Karper Trucking, Chambersburg, where he drove for over 25 years. Prior to driving truck he worked at Domestic Pump in Shippensburg for over 20 years. Sam was a member of the Shippensburg First Church of God, a life member of the Vigilant Hose Company and a member of the Durff-Kuhn VFW Post # 6168, both in Shippensburg. He was a United States Army Veteran of the Korean War. Sam was a graduate of the former Shippensburg High School.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine L. Thomas Gehrett, three children, Walter “Fuzz” (Linda) Gehrett of Newville, Debbie (Larry) Filler of Enola and William (Peggy) Gehrett, Sr. of Shippensburg, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Kate Mellott.
Funeral services will be held Monday, February 20, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Shippensburg with Rev. Jim Rogers officiating. Burial with military honors conducted by the Shippensburg Veterans Council will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the services in the funeral home.
