Samuel Jacob Furry, Jr., 96, of Chambersburg, passed away Wednesday, June 19, 2024 at SpiriTrust Lutheran Home, Chambersburg.
Born Monday, May 21, 1928 in Chambersburg, he was a son of the late Samuel Jacob and Florence Estelle Shields Furry, Sr.
Sam was a 1946 graduate of the Chambersburg Area Senior High School. He was a United Army Veteran serving in the Korean War as a Morse Code Operator, and later served in the Army Reserves for 16 years.
He retired as a truck driver for the Ward Trucking Company in Greenvillage for over 25 years, where he received the Employee of the Year Award, the U.S. Paper Mills in Chambersburg for over 19 years, The Forrester Lincoln Dealership in Chambersburg for 11 years, and Sam also volunteered at SpiriTrust Luther Ridge.
Sam was a member of the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post # 223, Shippensburg, and a member of the WWII Air Craft Club. He was a Life Member of the St. Luke Lutheran Church in Chambersburg, where he taught the Shining Star Sunday School Class for many years.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Patricia Ann Mowery Furry, whom he married December 24, 1969; one son, Jeffrey Lee (wife Vivian) Furry, Chambersburg; and one sister in-law Margaret Furry, Scotland.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Christopher Earl Furry who passed away October 14, 2019, and two brothers, Charles Oscar Furry and Emory Richard Furry.
Funeral services and burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Luke Lutheran Church, 2695 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, PA 17202.
