Ruth V. Miller, 103, resident of Menno Haven Chambers Pointe, passed away the evening of Tuesday, January 9, 2024.
She was born on March 21, 1920 in Newport, Perry County, a daughter of the late Clarence and Alma Beers Rhoades.
Ruth retired as an inspector from G.S. Electric in Carlisle. She was a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Durff-Kuhn VFW Post #6168, past president and member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Oscar M. Hykes American Legion Post #223, and member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Marine Corps, Chambersburg. Ruth was also a longtime member of the Shippensburg First Church of God.
Ruth was an active volunteer in the community, volunteering for numerous local organizations. She was a den leader for the Boy Scouts and a camp cook at both Hidden Valley Scout Reservation and Camp YoliJwa. Ruth was also a telemarketer and aerobics instructor at Chambersburg Fitness Center until she was 92 years old. Anyone who knew Ruth, knew she was a “one of a kind” woman who loved living life.
She is survived by two children, Janice Ott of Shippensburg and Bonnie (Ed) Karsen of Fayetteville; daughter-in-law, Linda Miller; nine grandchildren, Bill (Lisa) Ott, Becky (Tim) Kellerman, Mike Mentzer, Andrea (Jerry) Sunderland, Andy (Susan) Miller, Debby Stitely, Joe (Vanessa) Miller, Krissy Thomkins, and Megan Messner; and 13 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three children, Rebecca Miller, Vickie (Terry) Mentzer, and Fred Miller; son-in-law, Dana W. Ott; granddaughter, Julia Miller; and 12 brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 15, 2024 at 2:30 p.m. at the Shippensburg First Church of God. Pastor Rodeny Bistline will officiate. Burial will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
