Ruth A. McElwee, 81, a resident at Forest Park Health Center and Rehabilitation, Carlisle, and formerly of Newville, died Friday, March 21, 2014 in the Carlisle Regional Medical Center.
Born Tuesday, August 2, 1932 in Cumberland County, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Vella M. Hockenberry Whisler.
Ruth was of the Methodist Faith. She enjoyed farming and playing BINGO and loved and cherished her grandchildren. Ruth was a foster mother to many under privileged children.
She is survived by two sons, Roger L. McElwee of Carlisle and Thomas H. McElwee Jr., and wife Becky of Newburg, one daughter, Joyce A. Anderson and husband John of Newville, six grandchildren and two great granddaughters, one great grandson, one step grandson and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas H. McElwee, Sr., who died in 1991, and one daughter, Melissa M. Rohrer who died in 2006.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 26, 2014 in the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home Inc., at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Myrtle E. McCall officiating. Burial will be in Middle Spring Cemetery. A viewing will be held Tuesday, March 25, 2014 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday, in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Forest Park Health Center and Rehabilitation, 700 Walnut Bottom Road, Carlisle, Pa. 17013.
