OBITUARY FOR RUTH KREGER
(June 25, 1927 – December 29, 2018)

On December 29, 2018, Ruth Kreger (nee Mase), of Chambersburg, PA passed away at the age of 91.

Ruth was born in Liberty, PA where she grew up, one of five children, on a dairy farm run by her widowed mother, and where she learned the value of hard work. She graduated from Mansfield State Teachers College with a degree in home economics, began raising her family in upstate New York, and went on to teach 4th grade for many years at the Nancy Grayson Elementary School in Shippensburg PA. Ruth was a faithful member of Christ United Methodist Church in Shippensburg, where she volunteered and sang in the choir. She loved music and took piano lessons well into her 80’s. Ruth loved to bake for others, and many gatherings were warmed by her pies and cookies. Her baking prowess followed her to Menno Haven, as she became known as the sticky bun queen of Northgate. Ruth was active in her years at Menno Haven, participating in pool exercise classes, Tai Chi, power walking, book group, bible study, and volunteering in the library.

Ruth is best remembered as a woman of kind and caring heart, asking for little but giving so much. Her selflessness and patience were legendary among friends and family. She never sought attention for herself, but gave it to others without measure, expecting nothing in return. All who knew her will consider themselves blessed that she graced a special time in their lives.
Ruth will forever be remembered by Leon, her husband of 70 years, her children Steven (Judy) of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, David (Colette) of Lakewood, CO and Roxane Lafferty (David) of Southampton, NJ. She will also be remembered by her sister Jean Russ of Lewistown, PA, her brother Lawrence Mase of Liberty, PA, and grandchildren Andrew, Alex, Reed, and Laura Kreger.

Ruth was preceded in death by her son Lynn, brother, Donald, and brother Orville.

A Celebration of Ruth’s life will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, January 11, 2019 at Chestnut Landing in Northgate at Menno Haven. Interment will be private. Memorial donations in her memory may be made to SpiriTrust Lutheran Hospice 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, PA.
