Ruth Karper

June 23, 1930 — April 20, 2017

Ruth A. Karper, 86, of Shippensburg, departed this life on the morning of Thursday, April 20, 2017, at her home.

She was born on June 23, 1930, in Walnut Bottom, a daughter of the late George and Sarah Billman Kann.

Ruth was a homemaker throughout her life, raising a very large family. She enjoyed sewing and quilting, crossword puzzles, gardening in her flower beds, and bird watching. Ruth liked to watch musicals, old movies, and game shows. She collected angel and hummingbird figurines. Ruth enjoyed singing and listening to others sing and was a former member of the Mt. Rock Brethren in Christ Church and most recently attended the Shippensburg Church of the Nazarene. Ruth will always be remembered for her generous and loving spirit and her purposeful, encouraging, and accepting nature toward her children and grandchildren and almost anyone whom she would meet.

She is survived by eleven children, Pati (James) Knepper of Chambersburg, April (Richard) Rotz of Shippensburg, Steven (Diane) Karper of Shippensburg, Sue (Larry) McLaughlin of Fayetteville, Candace Warren of Shippensburg, Lorrie (James) Ross of Shippensburg, Luther (Sonja) Karper of Shippensburg, Marcia Karper of Shippensburg, Matthew Karper of Shippensburg, Timothy (Jennifer) Karper of Shippensburg, and Jamie (Jennifer) Karper of Newburg; twenty one grandchildren; twenty three great grandchildren; two sisters, Alice Stauffer and Janet Kann; two brothers Harold and Larry Kann; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Luther W. Karper, III; one son, Michael Karper; and one daughter, Brenda Karper; three brothers, Lester, Donald, and Richard Kann; and one sister, Shirley Graham.

Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at the Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., Shippensburg. Pastor Richard Rotz will officiate. Interment will follow in the Air Hill Cemetery. Viewing will be Tuesday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ruth Karper Memorial Fund at the Orrstown Bank.
